Ability to Learn
The cat's adaptability has allowed it to enter our lives successfully.
Through selective breeding we increase our cats' sociability, and by raising kittens in our homes and exposing them to a variety of experiences during the period from three to seven weeks of age we perpetuate their kittenlike dependency on us for food, warmth, comfort, and security.
Early experiences radically influence the adult cat. Kittens that are raised without human contact will always be fearful of strange humans, but kittens raised with people or other animals will accept and enjoy their company throughout life.
