All Cats Remain Tabbies
Beneath their extravagant variety of shimmering shades and patterns, all cats remain tabbies in disguise.
Just as the most cossetted of pet cats retains the abilities of its predatory ancestors, the hidden tabby pattern is a reminder of the cat’s roots under the sophisticated exterior, an origin to which it can return at any time.
Through selective breeding, spotted, tipped, and pointed patterns are nurtured, or even created, by breeders.
These are made possible by mutations in the genetics of feline coat patterns, mutations that would have reduced natural camouflage in the wild, but were no
longer dangerous once the cat chose to live with us.
