Appetite Loss

A short fast is of no concern but prolonged feline fasting is dangerous, and can even lead to serious liver-related disease.

If your cat has lost interest in its food: consult your vet. Stimulate its taste buds with extra-aromatic foods and warm up food slightly, to make it give off stronger aromas.

Stay with your cat while it eats, as encouragement can sometimes help. If your cat refuses to eat, your vet will prescribe a liquid diet that you can feed it by syringe until it is well enough to eat on its own.

If the cat becomes dehydrated, your vet will have to feed it either intravenously or by stomach rube.
