Cat Lends Itself to ideas of Sorcery and Divination
The very nature of the cat lends itself to ideas of sorcery and divination.
Its large eyes dilate fully to see in the dark, causing the mirrorlike retinas to give a ghostly reflection, and its nocturnal habits have always been shrouded in mystery.
Another puzzle is the cat’s ability to live through plights that would be fatal to other animals, making it one of nature's best survivors. Combined, these factors have worked both for and against the cat.
In some places it has been celebrated, even treated like a god, while in others it has been feared and treated with contempt. In short, wherever the cat has traveled, stories of magic and superstition have followed.
Although the cat is no longer worshipped and as it was by the ancient Egyptians, many customs and superstitions that built up around it still exist in other cultures today.
