Cats communicate with other cats
Cats communicate subtly and successfully with other cats, but less so with us.
Social relationships are of little importance to them, so the nuances of facial expression and "distance-reducing" body language are not highly defined: the human smile or a dog's wagging tail do not have overt equivalents in cat communication
Other methods by which cats exchange information are refined. These include the voice (our favored medium), touch, scent, and visual displays or markers.
With our tendency to rely on speech, we often fail to understand what is meant by scratches on the sofa or feces left unburied.
