Choke Chain During Training

Choke chains are used by disciplinarian trainers. As a dog pulls forward, the chain around its neck tightens until it hurts or the dog cannot breathe.

If you put it on the wrong way, it does not loosen up when the dog stops pulling. A choke chain is unnecessary. Use a half-check collar instead.

This collar is part fabric (usually braided nylon) and part choke; so nylon rather than metal links lie against the windpipe when a dog surges forward.

It is impossible to put on backward. For heel training use a head halter, body harness, or half check, not a choke collar.
