Cleaning Your Guinea Pig's Home
Clean the cage often and use a mild disinfectant before refilling with fresh bedding.
While you clean, your guinea pig can be kept securely out of the way in a box or small cage. A room with no means of escape and no potential hazards is another alternative.
To keep your guinea pig healthy and its quarters odor-free, clean out the soiled corner of the cage each day. (Fortunately, most guinea pigs select one corner of the cage to use regularly as their "toilet.")
Then at least once a week replace the bedding entirely. Periodically scrub the floor and the cage with a mild disinfectant, such as one used to deodorize kitty litter pans. Rinse the cage well and allow it to dry thoroughly before refilling it with fresh bedding and re-introducing your pet.
