Diminishing Habitat
The broad geographical distribution of big cats, living in so many varied habitats, gives an impression of stability and success, but big cat numbers are declining almost everywhere.
This is partly due to hunting for pelts and the Far East animal products trade, but also through loss of natural habitat.
A hundred years ago, tigers ranged from Turkey to Korea and Bali. Without active human intervention, the habitat of the big cats will shrink even more.
