Domestic Adaptation

The majority of skulls from Egyptian cat cemeteries resemble Felis libyca.

Since the first cats were domesticated, subtle, gradual changes in coat color have arisen through climate, terrain, and artificial selection.

American and Australian coat colors show that cats traveled here from British ports in the 1700s and 1800s respectively.

Cats with an almost white "Van" bicolor originated in Byzantium (later known as Constantinople, now as Istanbul), but became isolated in Scandinavia after being taken there by returning traders and mercenaries.
