Early Satire

Although the Egyptians duly revered the cat, they were not without a sense of humor.

This satirical papyrus (c. 1150 BC), was penned by Theban scribes.

It shows a  procession of cats acting as household servants, attending to a seated lady mouse or rat and her young offspring.
