Galvayne's groove appears to have grown about half-way down the tooth by the time the horse is approximately 15 years old, and by 20, the groove will have reached the bottom.
From then on, the groove starts to gradually disappear from the top of the tooth downwards, and by the time the horse is approximately thirty years old, it should have completely gone.
During the teenage years, the tables of the incisors gradually change shape from triangular to rounded, the teeth appear to slant forward more and they appear longer.
The dental star gradually decreases in size, and ending up as a small dot in the middle of the tables of the incisors.
