Hay (or Grass)
Always feed good quality hay that is free from dust and weeds. Hay (or Grass) makes up a large part of the roughage and bulk requirements of the diet.
Even good hay may have some dust spores, and soaking it in water for 20 minutes before feeding will help to remove them.
Meadow hay is most commonly fed, and is soft and palatable. There are hay alternatives, one of which is haylage.
This is semi-wilted vacuum-packed grass that is dust free and as it is of a higher nutritional value than hay, it is fed in smaller quantities.
