Homecooking
Homecooking is excellent if you understand the unique nutritional needs of cats. Because of modern abattoir methods, it is best not to feed raw meat: there is always risk of bacterial contamination.
Any raw meat can also harbor the protozoal parasite Toxoplasma gondii, for which the cat is the intermediate host, and to which we are susceptible.
Avoid single-protein diets: to take just two examples, a diet that is restricted only to tuna can cause severe liver problems, and a diet solely of muscle meat will lead to decalcification of the bones.
Of course, a vegetarian diet is impossible, as cats must eat animal protein and fat to survive. When you select ingredients for your cat's diet, always use products fit for human consumption.
