Horse's Coat

A Horse's coat can come in a wide range of colors which is determined by the dominant and recessive color chromosomes of his parents.

A great deal of scientific research has gone into coat coloring, and this has become important as different coat colors have become more, or less, fashionable through the years.

In fact, for some breeds, although correct conformation and temperament is required, the main requirement is a set coat color, for example, with the Palomino and the Appaloosa.

It is interesting to note that it is believed that the spotted and colored coats (such as the skewbald) originally descended from the Spanish Horse, although this breed today never exhibits that type of coloring.
