Linseed
This has a very high oil content and is useful for improving condition and making the coat shine. It must be cooked before being fed and is poisonous if it is not.
Approximately 1 lb (0.5 kg) of linseed should be soaked in 3-4 in (7-10 cm) of water for 12 hours, it should then be brought to the boil and allowed to simmer for several hours.
It turns into a form of jelly, which can then be added riser to the normal feed or to a bran mash. Linseed should not be fed in large amounts, and no more than 1 lb (0.5 kg), unsoaked weight, should be fed a week.
