Living with your dog

Caring for your dog is not just a matter of disease prevention or calling in the vet when problems develop.

Good care means understanding your dog's psychological needs and at the same time integrating your canine companion into what is, from its evolutionary perspective, an alien environment.

A dog has to learn to let strangers touch it, and to respond to the words used in training. You also have to take care of your dog's special needs, whether it travels with you or stays behind when you leave home.

As your dog ages, you have to keep its best interests at heart - you are the one who will have to decide if and when to put your dog to sleep.
