Natural Flora and Fauna
As on all animals, the surface of the cat's skin is naturally colonized by a variety of microbes.
These flora and fauna survive and proliferate without causing skin disease - in fact, they are vital to the health of the skin.
Different regions of the skin have different "microclimates," some of them more attractive to microbes than others.
Regions that are frequently moist or wet and areas with dense hair and concentrated sweat glands, are most attractive to microbes.
Relatively hairless regions are least attractive.
