Nervous System Coordinates

The nervous system coordinates every aspect of a cat’s life.

It works in close conjunction with the hormonal system, to which it is linked through the brain and pituitary gland, to coordinate all of the cat's natural functions second by second, day by day, even season by season.

While hormones have slow but lasting effects, the nervous system, with its amazingly intricate circuitry responds swiftly, accurately, and directly to both internal and external events.

Some areas of the nervous system are under the cat's voluntary control; others function apparently on their own, but in reality they are controlled at deeper, unconscious levels.

Information travels through the nervous system in two directions: sensory nerves inform the brain about how a cat feels, and motor nerves carry information away from the brain, telling the cat's body what to do about how it feels.
