Objectives

Living with a dog offers a window into another world. Dog owners, by sharing their homes with another species, recognize that other species share with us a common range of needs and emotions, from security and constancy to jealousy and anger.

The following are the simple objectives for integrating dogs into a productive and mutually satisfying partnership with us. Dogs should:

1. Socialize with humans, other dogs, and other animals
2. Adapt to the human environment
3. Enjoy human touch
4. Accept restraint
5. Learn to control their aggression
6. Eliminate in designated areas
7. Come when they are called
8. Know how to walk on a leash
9. Have good manners inside and outside the home
10. Enjoy being home alone occasionally
11. Trust people.
