Progressively Increasing in Popularity
Progressively increasing in popularity, cats outnumber dogs across the United States, Canada, Britain, the Netherlands, Austria, and Switzerland.
In Sweden, Denmark, and Norway, the number of pet cats is expected to exceed that of dogs before the end of the century.
As cats replace dogs as our favorite companions, it becomes more important to realize that they are not dogs in disguise. The cat is unique among all the animals that have become domesticated -the only species that first, foremost, and forever follows its own mind.
Like all species, including humans, the cat instinctively strives to survive and leave descendents. Unlike people or dogs, it does this in an independent manner; the cat is not naturally a pack animal.
