Seven Years Old
Three main changes occur at around seven years old; first, the dental star becomes more obvious on the table of both the central and lateral incisors.
Second on the infundibulum decreases from the central incisors, and decreases in size on the corner laterals.
Third, a hook starts to appear on the back corner of the upper, corner incisors which is due to uneven wear of the teeth; this generally disappears at around eight years old.
Eight Years Old
The Hook generally has disappeared, as have the infundibulums. The tables of the teeth, usually starting with the central incisors, start to change shape from oval to triangular.
From eight years old and over, it becomes increasingly difficult to age the horse accurately .
