The Adrenal Glands
The adrenal glands lie adjacent to each kidney, and consist of an encapsulating cortex and a central core, or medulla.
The adrenal cortex produces cortisol and other hormones, which are instrumental in controlling metabolic rate and determining the body's response to injury.
The adrenal medulla produces epinephrine and norepinephrine, better known as adrenalin and noradrenaline. These hormones con: heart rate and blood vessel dilation.
The adrenals are a vital component of biofeedback circuit. This system controls fight-or-flight response, and has the most effect on feline behavior.
The biofeedback mechanism dictates the innate disposition sociability, and tamability of the cat.
