The basis of Life

Every living cell contains a nucleus, in which 19 pairs of chromosomes are stored.

The sex chromosomes are referred to as X and Y chromosomes; the others are autosomes.

Each chromosome, when unfurled, is a complex helix of four nucleotides. Called DNA, it forms the basis of life and all inherited characteristics.
