The Changing Nature of Illness
Just as the diseases that we face today differ dramatically from those our grandparents had to contend with, so it is for the cat.
The cat, however, appears to be more susceptible than many other species, including us, to a wide range of influences.
They suffer from "new" infections such as feline immune deficiency virus (FIV) and feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), and also “new” metabolic disorders such as overactive thyroid glands and heart disease.
Cats, their owners, and their veterinarians, face new genetic, environmental, and geriatric challenges. The nature of diseases, and their treatments, are constantly changing.
