The Respiratory System

Inhaled air first passes through the scenting apparatus of the nose, surrounded by the frontal sinuses, where it is warmed, humidified, and filtered.

It is then drawn down  the trachea, or windpipe, and into the lungs through two bronchi. Each bronchus splits into many smaller bronchioles that end in tiny pockets called alveoli.
