Toy Group Dogs

As civilization advanced and became more stable, people had more opportunity for leisure because less time was required for manual labor.

Dogs belonging to the hound, sporting, and terrier groups were bred down in size to produce a whole range of cute, sweet, gentle breeds that are unique both in appearance and character.

These aptly named toy dogs were developed as indoor house pets that are quite sturdy and easy to keep. Ranging from extremely small, cuddly dogs to lap dogs, they all need human protection and lots of care.

As shown on these pages, there are extremely small breeds like the Chihuahua, as well as those with long, elegant coats such as the Yorkshire terrier, Maltese, Pekingese, Australian silky terrier, Pomeranian, Papillon, and Cavalier King Charles spaniel.

There are also the short-haired Japanese terrier, toy Manchester terrier, and miniature pinscher, plus striking hairless wonders such as the Chinese crested dog and the Mexican hairless.

With a variety of abilities, these living treasures, veritable valuable luxuries, are all alert watch dogs, remaining faithful to their owner and family until death.
