Training Tips to Sit

Tips on teaching your dog to sit:

1.Most dogs naturally assume a sitting position to keep an eye on something above them. If your dog does not, hold its collar in one hand and use your other hand to tuck its hindquarters into a sitting position.

Give the command "Sit" as you do this and instantly reward the dog with a food treat and a verbal "Good dog."

Eventually you will give the "Sit" command when you are walking with your dog and you stop, or when it is playing and you want its attention.

2.Avoid overexcitement. If meals are so exciting that your dog cannot concentrate on yourcommands, do not use the meal as a reward. Train on a fuller stomach, using less stimulating but still interesting rewards.

3.Never give a command without ensuring that your dog compiles. If you do so, you are actively training your dog to disregard that command.
