Training Tips to Stay

Tips on teaching your dog to stay:

1.Train with your dog sitting at the base of a wall. That keeps it from sliding backward.

2. Avoid an abundance of praise after releasing your dog from "Stay." Too much praise on your part winds up your dog and teaches it to jump around and be exuberant at the end of a training session. Keep praise muted.

3.Never try "Stay" training when circumstances make it hard for your dog to concentrate on what you are doing.

If it is worried about the presence of other dogs or more interested in investigating other activities, its mind is elsewhere. During each short training session you want its full attention.
