Trimming is a Basic Tidying Up
Trimming is a basic tidying up, which requires a pair of round-ended scissors and a comb. It can greatly enhance the look of a horse and is a necessary process if you wish to enter a showring at any time.
Start by trimming round the head region, and carefully cut a narrow bridle path, making the cut no larger than 1 ½ in (38 mm). Before cutting the bridle path, take the comb and make a neat parting between the mane and forelock.
Very often horses have great tufts growing out of their ears and trimming these away improves the look of the head. Very carefully take the ear in one hand and press the two sides together, then trim along the edge.
Never actually trim inside the ear itself, and be very careful when trimming around the ear.
