Trimming the Nails

Outdoor cats benefit from sharp claws; they are part of its natural defenses, and assist it in climbing.

If you keep your cat indoors, trim its nails routinely Older cats often grow long nails, which may curl m and penetrate the paw pads.

Although nail trimming is painless, cats rarely enjoy it, so start training early. Accustom your feline to having its paws handled and its nails extended.

Always use a comfortable "guillotine" nail clipper, but if the nail has grown into the pad, consult your veterinarian.

If your feline is a ''wriggler," vary the location in your home where you clip its nails so that it does not learn to associate a particular site with the activity.

Trim the nails when your cat is relaxed and reward compliance with food treats and play.
