Type of Grass

In general, it is good to have a mix of nutritious grasses such as perennial rye grass, Timothy, meadow grass, crested dog's tail, creeping red fescue, and wild white clover.

There are many different types of grasses, some of which are better for horse pastures than others.

It is also a good idea to plant some herbs such as wild garlic, comfrey, sheep's parsley, chicory, and plantains, all of which most horses will eat enthusiastically and which are thought to have some medicinal qualities.

Ideally, the sward, the grasses, and herbs growing should have different flowering times, to provide continual nutritious growth.
