Vitamins and Minerals

Horses require certain vitamins and minerals to maintain a balanced diet and most of these are found in the concentrate feed, especially in the coarse mixes and cubes.

Horses should be fed some kind of succulent daily such as green foods, carrots, apples, etc.

They are a tasty addition to the diet, but more importantly provide vitamins and minerals, variety, and help to satisfy the horse's natural desire for grass, if not available.

However, many diets are deficient in salt and this should either be included in the diet or a salt lick should be installed where the horse can help itself.

Beware of the numerous supplements on the market today and take advice from a vet or a nutritionist before feeding them — in many instances it can be harmful to overfeed supplements, or to feed more than one variety at one time.
