Why Bo Likes Broccoli

On a very hot day in Washington, D.C. last week, Michelle Obama hosted nearly a thousand chefs on the White House lawn as part of her "Let's Move!" campaign to end childhood obesity.

After finishing her speech and donning a change of clothes, the First Lady joined the chefs and students from a local elementary school in her vegetable garden, where they all helped harvest the garden's bounty.

Along with the help of two students, Mrs. Obama cut heads of cauliflower, long, swirling garlic scapes and even some green broccoli, which she revealed would be heading toward Bo's food bowl!

"We've got a little one!."  The broccoli, which were still young, would be small and tender (and therefore, delicious), according to one of the staffers.

Obama also shared with the students that Bo has grown over the last year with his family. "Bo's gotten big," she said. "A lot of people don't realize how big he's gotten." Maybe all the broccoli works for Bo like spinach for Popeye! Not to worry, some vegetables are good for dogs and cats to eat, including broccoli, carrots and green beans.
