Withers

This should be well formed, being neither too prominent, nor too flat.

During a growth spurt young horses will often appear to be lower in the wither than the croup, but as they mature, they should become level.

Horses with very flat but muscular withers are not ideal as riding horses but do travel well in harness.

They tend to have a somewhat 'rolling' action and can be difficult to fit a saddle to.
